The Best Time to Book Umrah Hotels (and When Prices Peak)

30 June 2026 · 4 min read · Near Haramain team

Hotel prices in Makkah and Madinah move more than almost any other market: the same room can vary several-fold between a quiet midweek in winter and the last ten nights of Ramadan. Understanding the seasons is the single biggest lever for saving money on your Umrah trip.

The demand calendar

  • Ramadan — peak of the peak. Demand rises through the month and explodes in the last ten nights. Hotels near the Haram sell out months ahead. If Ramadan is your plan, book as early as you possibly can.
  • Hajj season. In the weeks around Hajj, Makkah hotels are dominated by Hajj operators. Umrah visas are restricted in this window anyway — most independent pilgrims avoid it.
  • School holidays and Umrah high season. December–January and the weeks after Hajj see strong demand from families and group tours.
  • Shoulder seasons. Late winter and the months between the peaks are the sweet spot: lower prices, shorter queues for the Black Stone, cooler weather — and far more choice of rooms near the Haram.

How far ahead should you book?

For peak dates (Ramadan especially), 3–6 months ahead is realistic for good availability near the Haram. For shoulder season, 4–8 weeks ahead usually gives a wide choice. Last-minute deals do exist outside peak dates, but you trade certainty — and the closest hotels are always the first to fill.

Use free cancellation as a strategy

Many rates on our platform include free cancellation until a deadline. That changes the game: book early to lock availability, keep watching prices, and if a better rate appears, rebook and cancel the original for a full refund — as long as you act before the deadline. Non-refundable rates are cheaper on paper, but only take them when your dates are certain.

Every rate on Near Haramain clearly shows its cancellation deadline before you pay, and cancellation times are shown against the deadline in UTC so there's no ambiguity.
